Walsall defender named in League Two team of the week after match-winning brace
Priestley Farquharson has been named in the EFL's League Two team of the week, after bagging a brace during Walsall's 2-1 win at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.
Walsall returned to winning ways after a seven-match winless run and welcome Fleetwood Town to Bescot on Tuesday sitting just two points outside the play-off places.
Farquharson opened the scoring with a tidy finish into the bottom corner during the first half and restored their lead with the match-winner just past the hour-mark.
The 28-year-old has scored three goals in his last two games for the Saddlers, after finding the net in a 2-2 draw at Grimsby Town on February 17.
In total, Farquharson has netted five times in League Two this season - equalling his record goal scoring campaign set in his last season at former club Newport County in 2022-23.
His first two seasons at Bescot were marred by injuries which limited him to just 24 appearances in all competitions across both campaigns.
However, Farquharson has featured 31 times for the Saddlers in all competitions this season and recently surpassed 50 appearances for the club.
