There used to be noticeable perks to playing the formation. Taylor Allen would maraud forward with his trademark underlapping runs, while Jamie Jellis and Charlie Lakin would suffocate opposition defences with a relentless press. 

Even this season, Connor Barrett rediscovered his attacking groove in the early weeks and defensive solidity was coupled with an ability to grind out wins. 

It's never always been pretty and Sadler has never purported to play free-flowing, high-possession football. 

When it achieves results, it works. When it doesn't, it becomes a chore to watch from the stands.

There was technical prowess in the midfield on Tuesday. Alex Pattison has proven that at this level with the likes of Harrogate Town, and most notably Bradford City.
