'My biggest supporter' - Walsall's Charlie Lakin on the legacy of his late grandfather
May 16, 2025: It was a night to remember for Charlie Lakin and the Walsall midfielder was unable to contain his emotions.
A tear spilled down his cheek at the very mention of his son and wife watching in the stands.
Lakin had just scored in the play-off semi-final second leg against Chesterfield to book a date at Wembley for just the second time in the Saddlers' history.
Lakin: "The main priority is doing it for my son"
The football pitch has been his natural habitat for as long as Lakin can remember, but becoming a father has provided him with an extra incentive in life.
"Being where I am in my career since having a kid has really changed the way I think about football," Lakin explained.

"I want to be there for him as much as possible and I never thought that would've been the case since having my little boy.
