Myles Roberts thwarted Harry McKirdy from the spot, just moments after Aaron Pressley saw his effort from distance tipped on to the crossbar.

Ryan Loft delivered the breakthrough for Crawley just past the half-hour mark, but Connor Barrett got Walsall back on level terms in style after the restart.

Walsall have so far reclaimed Bescot as a fortress, but are still also picking up points on the road.

It wasn't vintage. In fact, the Saddlers were extremely poor in the first half, although Mat Sadler was not quite as scathing in his post-match assessment.

Nevertheless, he did recognise that Walsall didn't look themselves, but they rediscovered their groove with a much-improved display after the break.

They still had to grind. Roberts was excellent between the sticks, and Evan Weir also had to rescue Walsall with a goal-line clearance.
