Walsall striker Daniel Kanu named EFL Young Player of the Month for September
Walsall striker Daniel Kanu has been named EFL Young Player of the Month for September.
Kanu, who is on loan from Championship side Charlton Athletic, scored three times in four appearances for the Saddlers last month.
The 20-year-old opened his account for the club with the match-winner in a 1-0 success over Chesterfield on his first home start.
He provided a vital equaliser in a draw at Fleetwood Town a week later and netted for the third successive game in a 4-2 triumph over Tranmere Rovers.
The Sierra Leone frontman is yet to taste defeat in Walsall colours - winning six and drawing once in his seven appearances in League Two.
"Daniel needs extreme credit for the mental strength that he shows, his athleticism and just a willingness to be the team player that he is," boss Mat Sadler said.
"That's the biggest thing that has struck me with the way Daniel plays alongside Aaron [Pressley] is what team players that they are.
"He deserves credit and I'm delighted for him that he gets that individual achievement."
Kanu follows in the footsteps of former Walsall loanees Nathan Lowe and Emmanuel Adegboyega who were both previously bestowed with this award in the past two seasons.
The youngster was also nominated for the PFA's League Two Player of the Month award for September earlier this week.
In terms of this weekend's trip to Crawley, Sadler has revealed that Kanu remains a doubt due to a calf issue.
