Mat Sadler: Ronan Maher still key to Walsall future despite Tamworth loan
Walsall boss Mat Sadler insists Ronan Maher remains part of his long-term plans after the midfielder joined National League side Tamworth on loan.
The 20-year-old has rejoined the Lambs on a youth loan until December 29, Walsall announced ahead of their League Two victory over Bristol Rovers.
Maher, who has made 31 appearances for the Saddlers, returns to Tamworth where he enjoyed two loan spells last season, and the youngster came off the bench to play the final 30 minutes in Tamworth’s 1-1 draw with Morecambe last Saturday.
Asked if Maher is still part of his plans at Walsall, boss Sadler said: “He sure is, I think it was key that we made sure to give him a two-year deal.
“Courtney Clark comes into the mix, we probably thought Ronan and Jake Holman would be the ones fighting for that position, but Courtney has come in.
“So, because of that, we need to get Ronan some games to continue his development.

“He certainly is part of the plans, and he is a lad who I have got utmost respect and admiration for.
“He is tenacious in the way he plays so fingers crossed he can do well there.”
Maher scored three goals and provided three assists for the Lambs during his previous loan spells, including an equaliser against League One side Burton Albion in the FA Cup. He has also previously spent time on loan at Rushall Olympic.
Sadler believes Tamworth, managed by Andy Peaks, is the ideal environment for the young midfielder to continue his development.
“We want him to play, we are desperate for him to play loads of games,” he added.
“I think that is really important at this stage for Ronan. If he isn’t going to be turning out for us in this spell, then we want him to go somewhere that loves him as a player, and Andy loves him, and they are doing great themselves. So, I know he will look after him.
“We want him to play, show who he is, have real momentum, and I am really pleased that he has gone to a club that he knows well, we know well, and I really trust the manager there.”
