Walsall signings stay at 17 after quiet deadline day
Walsall failed to add to their squad on transfer deadline day despite Darrell Clarke’s attempts to snap up a new winger.
Speaking after Saturday’s defeat to Grimsby, Clarke said he was close to making a loan signing.
He also said he had two or three targets lined up if that deal fell through.
“We have a loan offer in for a high level wide player,” he said. “And I have got two or three behind that if that falls through.”
But despite Walsall’s efforts to get a deal over the line, they were unable to complete a move before yesterday’s 5pm deadline.
It means Rory Gaffney – who joined on loan from Salford on Saturday – was the club’s 17th and final arrival of the summer.
The striker could make his debut against Coventry in the EFL Trophy tonight. And the forward outlined what Saddlers fans can expect from him.
“I work hard and make myself a nuisance to defenders,” Gaffney said.
“I do a bit of everything, I wouldn’t say I’m a penalty box striker but I’ll try to score as many goals as I can.”
