Walsall have signed winger Wes McDonald on a short-term contract – with the deal set to spark a frantic 24 hours of transfer of activity at the Banks's Stadium.

The 22-year-old spent last season with Yeovil Town, making 12 appearances for the Glovers in all competitions.

McDonald came through the youth ranks at Birmingham and had spells on loan at Solihull Moors and Nuneaton during his time with the Blues.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be here,” the winger said.

“I’m buzzing and can’t wait to get started at such a great club like Walsall.

“I’m a creative player and try to create chances, score goals and get assists. I always look to work hard and I’ve played in this league before so I know what to expect.

“I’m looking forward to going away with the lads (to Poland). I’ve spoken to a few of them and they seem a real good bunch of lads.

“I’m delighted the manager has given me this opportunity and I want to repay him on the pitch.”

McDonald joined Yeovil on a short-term deal at the start of the 2018/19 campaign, following a successful trial.

He then entered negotiations to extend his stay at Huish Park.

But a hamstring injury ruled him out of the second half of the campaign and he was let go in January before he had signed.

Walsall boss Darrell Clarke added: “Wes comes in with something to prove.

“He did well at Yeovil last year before injury ruled him out, but he’s fully fit now and has got all the attributes a wide player should have.

“I’m looking forward to working with him.”
