Jon Whitney desperate for strong Walsall finish
Walsall boss Jon Whitney is determined to finish as high as possible in League One in order to be an attractive prospect to potential newcomers.
The Saddlers were 13th heading into today's game against Coventry City, aiming to pick up a positive result to increase their chances of ending the term in the top half.
"The higher we finish in the league will help me to get a player in. They will look where we have finished – that's what I used to do when I was a player," said Whitney.
"We have targets, we want to finish as high as we can – 10th if possible, which is realistic if we win our game in hand. We want to finish as high as we can so players believe they can come here and develop, and push on next year."
For any boss at this time of the year, they will be planning ahead looking at players they would like to keep, and bring in.
When asked if contract talks are currently taking place, Whitney said: "There has been talks right throughout the year. There always is – it never stops. That's something myself, the board and the chairman have been sorting out."
