Injury woe for Walsall's Florent Cuvelier
Walsall's Florent Cuvelier is facing a minimum of three weeks on the sidelines after suffering a calf injury.
The talented Belgian has seen his career hampered by injuries over the past few years and struggled with an ankle knock and ear infection in the first half of the campaign.
But the 24-year-old fought his way back to form and fitness to start Walsall's last 11 games before injuring his calf at Scunthorpe on Tuesday.
Cuvelier will have a scan on the injury tomorrow or Monday to assess the full extent of the knock.
But boss Jon Whitney revealed the disappointed midfielder faces at least three weeks on the sidelines.
"Flo got his studs caught in the ground at Scunthorpe and picked up a slight calf strain," he said.
"We'll see how it is over the next couple of days, he's a bit down but I'm going to keep his head up.
"I think we'll be without Flo for a minimum three weeks but hopefully it'll only only be three weeks.
"It's a real shame for him but we've got people to come in. Kieron Morris came on at Scunthorpe and did well, we've got George Dobson who can come in so we're ok.
"We're going to pick up the injuries now and then but it's important the squad is used and players take their opportunity."
Meanwhile, Whitney explained why he opted to recall striker Simeon Jackson at the expense of Amadou Bakyoko for Tuesday's trip to Glanford Park.
"It was just too freshen things up," the boss added.
"About three weeks ago now I got all my strikers and said listen 'it's going to be important in this run of games that we share the workload.'
"Ama's done really well and we've had a good run of games so it's difficult to change but I just felt it was right for Simeon.
"He's been chomping a the bit in training so I just thought it was time to give him a go at Scunthorpe.
"Ama did well when he came off the bench as well so we share the workload especially with this run of games on Saturday-Tuesdays."
