Scott Laird will meet with Scunthorpe today to sort out his future – with Walsall anxiously waiting to see if they can keep the popular left-back.

The 28-year-old has made a big impression at the Banks's Stadium since joining on loan from the Iron back in August. Laird has scored three goals in 22 appearances for Jon Whitney's side.

But his loan expired after Walsall's loss to Rochdale on January 2 with his future cast into doubt when Scunthorpe left-back Conor Townsend picked up a hamstring injury.

There were also fears Norwich would recall fellow full-back Harry Toffolo from his loan at Glanford Park.

But Toffolo's temporary switch was extended to the end of the season on Saturday, indicating Walsall now have a stronger chance of re-signing Laird, either on a permanent deal or another loan.

"Scott (Laird) is coming in on Monday so I'll be speak to him then," Alexander said. "We had a little text conversation this week

. They're coming in to talk and we'll take it from there."

Whitney has previously stated his desire to keep the defender at the club with Laird also keen to stay.
