Jon Whitney won't be scared to make a Walsall change
Boss Jon Whitney will assess his formation options as Walsall prepare to take on League One rivals Fleetwood tomorrow.
The Saddlers have traditionally lined up in a 4-2-3-1 system this season but switched to 3-5-2 for the victory at Sheffield United.
Whitney's men head to Highbury Stadium where they will face a Fleetwood side who are unbeaten in their last five outings.
And Whitney feels it's important his team has the ability to change tactics, both tomorrow and for the rest of the campaign.
"Last season one of the big positives was that we could switch between two formations," he said.
"The first two or three years with Dean (Smith), we didn't mix things up because the players weren't right.
"Last year we started to it it and it worked really well.
"We had to decide when the time was right to do that with this group and we felt Sheffield United was that time.
"Whether we do it again Saturday, we will have to see.
"The players like it but we will assess it on their performance in training."
One player who looks set to keep his place in the Saddlers side is striker Amadou Bakyoko who netted the winning goal in the victory over the Blades.
"Ama was great at Bramall Lane," Whitney continued.
"He was subbed because he had left everything out on the pitch. If you do that you are going to have a good run of games.
"Ama's understating is now really coming on and it's maybe time for him to have a run of games and see how he applies himself."
The Cod Army enter tomorrow's clash with boss Uwe Rosler having guided them to eighth in the table.
And Whitney is looking forward to locking horns with the German who he previously faced in his playing days.
"I played against him when I was at Lincoln against Manchester City and marked him," the boss added.
"It was at Maine Road and we beat them 1-0. It was a massive upset.
"I have also come across him as a manager and he is driven and very enthusiastic.
"I can see what he is trying to at Fleetwood. He is trying to do things the right way.
"It will be a good, tactical game. I'm looking forward to locking horns with him again."
