Price of football study: Walsall fans are quids in for low-cost footie
Walsall supporters continue to pay some of the lowest prices in League One for both tickets and replica shirts, according to the BBC's annual Price of Football study.
The results, published last night, show the Saddlers have a competitive price structure in comparison to their rivals.
The cheapest season ticket at the Banks's Stadium costs £253, an increase of £6.50 on last year.
But only Bradford, Charlton, Fleetwood and Northampton can offer better deals making Walsall the fifth cheapest in League One.
Priced at £441, the club's most expensive season ticket is the 10th most costly in the division.
Charlton and Chesterfield charge the most at £550 and £530 respectively. Peterborough charge £500.
The Saddlers also fair well with individual tickets, with only eight clubs offering a lower price than the club's cheapest ticket which is sold for £20.
And while supporters may have had a frustrating wait for this year's kit thanks to delay with suppliers Carbrini, a junior shirt, priced at £24.99, is the lowest in League One – with Bradford, Charlton, Coventry, Northampton and Southend all charging £36.
Priced at £39.99, an adult shirt is the second lowest in the division and is only bettered by Scunthorpe who are 4p cheaper at £39.95.
Eight clubs in the division charge £45 for a shirt.
Elsewhere, there has been a decrease of 20p on a cup of tea and pie, with those items now priced at £2 and £3 respectively.
Match day programmes at the Banks's Stadium cost £3, the same as 22 other clubs in the division, with only Fleetwood priced differently at £1.
The study also notes Walsall offer free season tickets to under-12s if bought alongside a season ticket for full-paying adult.
Yet, perhaps most notably, it omits an offer which allows juniors to watch the whole league season for free.
As part of the club's early bird deals, under-18s are able to purchase a season ticket for £69, for which they receive £3 back for each of the 23 league games they attend.
