Joe Edwards is relishing the prospect of a productive international break but says Walsall can't wait to return to action against Shrewsbury.

The Saddlers were due to play League One promotion favourites Sheffield United tomorrow but have postponed the clash due to international call-ups.

It means Jon Whitney's side are now next in action on October 15 when rivals Shrewsbury visit the Banks's.

And after registering back-to-back wins against Millwall in the league and Sheffield United in the Checkatrade Trophy, Edwards admits the players can't wait for the game.

"The international break is a great opportunity for us to work on some things," he said. "But we are raring to go against Shrewsbury.

"We deserved our victories against Millwall and Sheffield United. We didn't want to be going into the break on the back of two losses.

"This league is all about momentum and now we've put some wins together we are confident and really looking forward to Shrewsbury."

Edwards was restored to the side for the trip to Bramall Lane having served a three-match ban for a red card picked up against Bolton.

But while the Checkatrade Trophy has come in for heavy criticism from supporters this season, the 25-year old feels Walsall are making the best of the competition.

He added: "

There has been a lot said about the competition but we were delighted to get through and we could see how disappointed Sheffield United were to lose the game.

"The end goal is a game at Wembley and that can't be bad.

"It's also a tournament where you can give players a chance. Josh Ginnelly did really well, he's been working hard in training. And Ama (Amadou Bakayko) as well.

"He always takes his chances when he gets it and in training he never moans.

"Will Shorrock too. It was great to see him get some minutes on the pitch.

"It is a fantastic opportunity for the younger players."
