Franck Moussa hungry for more Walsall goals
Walsall's Franck Moussa admits he is hungry for more goals after opening his account in the victory over Millwall.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a memorable week for the Saddlers having grabbed a goal and assist in the victory over the Lions.
Moussa followed that performance with another impressive display as Jon Whitney's side secured their place in the second round of the Checkatrade Trophy with a win at Sheffield United.
And having been brought to the club in the summer because of his goal threat, Moussa admits it was a relief to open his Saddlers account.
"I was delighted to score and I felt it was a bit of pressure off my back," the winger said. "I'm desperate to do well for this club and to score my first goal in front of the home fans was something I will cherish.
"As an attacking player, I feel I need to contribute to the attacking play of the team and I'm at a stage now where I am really looking to kick on."
Moussa has vast experience in League One having turned out for Leicester, Southend and Coventry in English football's third tier.
And he expects the division to remain tight this year – with the Belgian-born star reluctant to predict who will be part of the promotion shake-up.
"I know this league really well and it's the teams that can find a level of consistency that are successful," he said. "It's difficult for us to get carried away when we win against a Millwall or a Bolton and then lose to a Scunthorpe.
"Hopefully we're not going to have too many ups and downs and we are going to find that level of consistency.
"The talent is here but it's difficult to look at the league so closely at this stage.
"It's really about – especially a team like us, that's got plenty of new players – making sure you get a formula that works for you.
"Millwall and Sheffield United were two good results and now we have to build on them and go again after the international break."
Before the Millwall clash, Walsall found themselves sat in the relegation zone in League One.
And Moussa believes it was important for team spirit that they hauled themselves out as soon as possible, with the Saddlers currently in 16th position in the table.
"We definitely didn't want to be in the relegation zone with two weeks before the Shrewsbury game," he added.
"But at this moment in time we're still quite focused on performances and getting the team to play well.
"It's such a delight when you can play well and get a result.
"We've had a lot of positives in the last two games. Against Millwall, even when they equalised, we pulled together as a team and found a way to win. We were really resilient and that bodes well for the future."
