Franck Moussa: Watershed meeting key for Walsall
Franck Moussa believes Walsall's heavy defeat to Scunthorpe has proven a watershed moment in their season. The Saddlers, who face Sheffield United in the Checkatrade Trophy tonight, were beaten 4-1 by the Iron last week.
But Jon Whitney's side responded in emphatic fashion with a 2-1 victory over Millwall on Saturday.
That win came after a hastily arranged team meeting, in which all of Walsall's players discussed where they had gone wrong against Graham Alexander's side.
Moussa was one of the loudest voices in that meeting and the winger felt it was a vital learning curve for the squad.
"The players understand that when you lose 4-1 at home - you have to take responsibility," he said.
"You can't blame the manager. It's not the tactics, the pitch. The people to blame are the ones that played.
"Afterwards it was a case of all of the players looking at themselves in the mirror and realising they can do better.
"Millwall was the opportunity to react and we did that.
"We owed ourselves a performance and it was great to get the win. But it doesn't stop there because it's no good winning one week and losing the next.
"Millwall has to be the game that really kick-starts our season because, as individuals, we can all up our game." Meanwhile, Walsall have confirmed their League One clash with Sheffield United has been rearranged to take place on November 29.
The game had originally been scheduled for this Saturday but was postponed after Simeon Jackson, Maz Kouhyar and Liam Kinsella all received international calls.
