Boss Jon Whitney admits he is excited by Walsall's attacking potential as his new-look side continues to gel.

The Saddlers snapped up a host of forward players this summer with Simeon Jackson, Erhun Oztumer and club record signing Andreas Makris all arriving at the Banks's Stadium.

Whitney insists the best is yet to come after watching his players forge an impressive understanding in training.

"Simeon has been great for us with his movement and I think now Andreas is starting to work really well with him," the boss said. "In training those two with Erhun, some of the link-up play and understanding between the three of them is outstanding.

"That's what I saw in Andreas when I signed him and Simeon's got it too.

"Erhun just looks for runs, his vision is second to none in this league.

"If we can use that, with that solid foundation at the back, then we will win a lot more games.

"It's exciting to see. Andreas is starting to understand the English game now. And then you add in the likes of Franck Moussa as well as Kieron Morris, Amadou Bakayoko and Maz Kouyhar – who were all here last season – we have lots of quality in those attacking positions."

Meanwhile, Joe Edwards has been suspended for three matches after losing his appeal against his red card in the victory over Bolton on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was sent off for what referee Trevor Kettle deemed to be an elbow on Chris Taylor after the two players battled to win the ball in the air.

Edwards was giving his marching orders in the 16th minute. However, Whitney's side still managed to go on and win the game thanks to a Jason McCarthy goal.

Walsall appealed the sending off on the grounds Edwards showed no intent to hurt his opponent.

But the appeal has been dismissed by the FA with Edwards now set to serve a three-game ban. It means the former Yeovil man will miss the upcoming League One clashes against Peterborough, Scunthorpe and Millwall.
