Jon Whitney wants three points ahead of break

Boss Jon Whitney admits the looming international break provides added incentive for Walsall to get back to winning ways tomorrow.

The visit of Bury to the Banks's Stadium is the Saddlers final League One fixture for a fortnight and Whitney is determined for his players to sign off the opening month in style, as they hunt a first victory since the opening day of the campaign.

"We have got international players and it has put more impetus on this weekend," he said. "We need to end on a good performance to go into that two weeks.

"I know we have Grimsby in the Checkatrade Trophy but from a league perspective, if we finish on seven points, it will represent a good return from the first five games, considering everything we have had to do over the summer.

"It is not a given, we need to make sure we give a good account of ourselves and go and show Bury what we are about."

Whitney claims his players have been in 'buoyant' mood in the build-up to the Shakers visit, with the atmosphere around the training ground unaffected by a run of four games without a win.

"One of the messages I give to the players is we still believe in what we do," he said.

"I want to make sure we are nice and tight and compact."
