Jon Whitney wants Saddlers to show some solidity

Walsall boss Jon Whitney has stressed the need for his side to be 'more solid' at the back.

The Saddlers are currently 17th in the League One table with four points from as many games.

Including the 2-0 defeat at home to Yeovil in the EFL Cup, they have conceded seven goals in five games, scoring four. The boss feels his charges need to respond better if they go behind in games, as they did twice in their last game against Charlton.

"I need to see that the players can handle adversity when it happens and not feel sorry for ourselves when we go behind," said Whitney.

"When you are chasing the game it is a bit difficult because teams bank in and suddenly there is no space for us to play in. We have not really got the type of player to start being direct so it becomes difficult when we go behind."

Whitney was particularly upset with the defensive display in the last game against the Addicks and has a clear aim for the game with Bury at the Banks's Stadium on Saturday; do not concede.

"I am very disappointed with the result. That one hurt a bit," he added.
