Walsall boss Jon Whitney hopes to have skipper Adam Chambers back available for Saturday's home game with Bury.

The 35-year-old has missed the last three league games with a hamstring problem but is now nearing a return.

Midfielder Erhun Oztumer is also pushing for a start after recovering from a back injury, while the Saddlers are also monitoring the progress of Rico Henry. The 19-year-old left-back has undergone a series of injections after suffering a dislocated shoulder at Oldham earlier this month and Whitney will have discussions with the club's medical staff before deciding whether he is ready to return.

The Saddlers go into Saturday's game looking to snap a two-game losing run and record their first victory since the opening day of the season.

Chambers' absence has seen Whitney utilise both George Dobson and Liam Kinsella alongside Isaiah Osbourne in central midfield and the manager has been impressed with how all three have performed.

"Adam has been missed but if you look at how George has played, while Isaiah got man-of-the-match against Charlton, I'm not sure he has been missed as much as people make out," he said.

"He is the club captain, he has played almost every game for the last three seasons but I don't want to take away from the players who have played.

"I thought they were excellent against Charlton but it was individual errors which cost us."
