Jon Whitney: Final Walsall friendly will be dress rehearsal for the real thing
Walsall boss Jon Whitney insists the time for experimentation is over as he gears up for tomorrow's friendly against Luton.
The fixture, at Kenilworth Road, marks the Saddlers' last non-competitive clash before the League One season kicks off on August 6.
Whitney's men begin the new campaign with a home game against AFC Wimbledon.
The Dons came up through the League Two play-offs last year to achieve their sixth promotion since their formation in 2002.
And the boss says tomorrow clash against the Hatters will be used as a dress rehearsal for the visit of Neal Ardley's side.
"We will go through the pre-match routine and travel down as if it is the first game of the season," Whitney said.
"The message to the players will be that we are playing for points.
"It is the game where we need to iron out all the creases to get things ready for Wimbledon.
"I will pick a team that won't be far off the team that starts on August 6.
"It will be interesting. There are a few problems that have been put on my list but they are good problems to have.
"I will have to upset a few players. But they will be ready when picked. We will get them just right."
Two players who are likely to feature tomorrow are recent signings Simeon Jackson and Franck Moussa.
And, after joining later in pre-season, Whitney says the duo have been working hard on their fitness to ensure they are ready for the new campaign.
"I thought Franck looked a lot sharper against Notts County and his recovery has been better as well," Whitney said. "He got another good 45 minutes under his belt and is working hard.
"Simeon too has also been working very hard.
"I've got a lot of options. Now I have to think of a team for the weekend and push it on to next week."
