Striker Simeon Jackson is determined to rediscover his best form so Walsall can embark on another promotion push.

The Canadian international enjoyed a prolific goalscoring record in his time with Rushden & Diamonds and Gillingham.

But recent spells with Eintract Braunschweig in Germany as well as Millwall, Coventry City and Barnsley have been less successful - with the forward having netted just six times in his last 60 outings.

Now tasked with replacing Tom Bradshaw, Jackson turned down a host of other clubs this summer to join the Saddlers.

And he believes his move to the Banks's Stadium will help him become one of League One's most clinical front men once again.

He said: "The plan is to get back to being a regular goalscorer. I want to be playing games and scoring. I know if I feature regularly, I will score regularly.

"If I do that, as a group we could go one better than the team that was here last year. There is no reason why this team can't go on and win promotion."

Walsall fans got a first glimpse of their new No 9 in Saturday's friendly against Derby.

Jackson will also feature tonight, as Jon Whitney's side continue their pre-season preparations with a friendly at Notts County.

The forward told of how both Whitney and all the players are working hard to ensure they have a successful season.

He said: "The manager was the big reason I signed. He gave me a ring. He told me that he wanted me to come and that he felt I would fit in.

"He asked me to come in for breakfast. So I did and from that moment everything progressed quickly. I'm buzzing to be here.

"From the moment you come in, you realise it's a great environment, a great club to be a part of.

"We've got a lot of new lads but we are all settling in really well. Training has been good and the lads have been great with me."

Meanwhile, Whitney confirmed Rico Henry and Florent Cuvelier will feature against Notts Country tonight after being rested for the Derby game.

The Saddlers chief said: "Rico and Flo we rested for Derby. Rico has played a lot of minutes. Flo we rested as well.

"Flo wanted to play. But he understands. He is most vulnerable Flo when he is at his best. When I get a gut feeling I have to go with that.

"I pulled him out and rested him. I worked him really hard in the week so I wanted to rest him.

"There are times I have to be a scientist, a strength conditioning coach, a manager and a friend. I have to work out which hat I put on each time.

"The important thing is to build towards August 6. Wimbledon is what we have to be ready for."
