Tom Bradshaw sees a platform with Walsall

Star striker Tom Bradshaw believes firing Walsall into the Championship will be the perfect way to win a place in the Wales squad for Euro 2016.

The striker will be part of the Saddlers team that takes on Barnsley tomorrow in the first leg of the League One play-offs.

Bradshaw has also been named in a Wales squad heading to Portugal on May 23, for a warm weather training camp ahead of this summer's European Championships in France.

But the 23-year-old will be forced to miss out on the trip to the Algarve if Walsall overcome Barnsley and make it to the play-off final.

He said: "I was over the moon when I was told I was in the Wales squad but, hopefully, I will be in London instead of Portugal.

"Wales have been great. I have been made aware that it won't be held against me. These games are just as much an audition.

"They are in front of the Sky cameras and the whole country. It's fairly easy for the gaffer to monitor how well I'm playing.

"Hopefully, I can do well, score some goals and Chris Coleman (boss) will consider me for the 23-man squad.

"The potential is there to go up with Walsall and then go to the Euros. To have one of those opportunities would be special, but both in the same year is amazing."

Whatever the outcome of the play-offs, Walsall boss Jon Whitney believes Bradshaw should be selected to represent his country in France.

Whitney said: "If we are in the play-off final then Tom doesn't go to Portugal.

"But it's better for him to be playing and putting himself in the shop window, on a massive stage like the play-offs, than going to a training camp.

"A training camp is to see how you are around people and the players but Tom is great that. They know he is a good lad.

The Walsall chief said: "I think they would be foolish not to take him to France because Tom gets better as he plays with better players – he keeps raising the bar.

"He will be ready for Wales but hopefully it is on the back of a Championship place for us."

Bradshaw made his debut in the full national side as a substitute in Kiev in a 1-0 friendly defeat to Ukraine in March but impressed in the 20 minutes he was on the pitch.
