Liam Kinsella can fill Walsall skipper's boots
Interim boss Jon Whitney has backed youngster Liam Kinsella to be Walsall's long-term successor to Adam Chambers.
The Saddlers skipper, who has been an ever present this season, was forced off in Tuesday's 1-0 victory at Fleetwood after receiving a kick to his shin.
Chambers is now a doubt for tomorrow's home clash with Chesterfield, but Whitney has no worries about throwing in Kinsella who he described as "excellent" in the win at Highbury Stadium.
Whitney said: "Adam came off after he got a kick. He is OK and I think he will be alright for Saturday, but I was made up for Liam Kinsella coming on.
"I have told him many times – you can be the new Adam Chambers. He came on and I thought he was fantastic. He kept things simple but he broke things up and was committed.
"All the players, even the lads who can't get on the pitch, have been fantastic for me. Liam put in a really good shift when he came on, he is a great professional."
Meanwhile, Chambers believes being at a club that allows him to enjoy his football is the secret to his evergreen form.
Walsall's captain is playing arguably the best football of his career despite recently turning 35-years-old.
And he feels it's the positive atmosphere around the Banks's Stadium that has allowed him to shine.
Chambers said: "I think I am possibly playing the best football of my career. I think it all comes down to making sure you enjoy the football you are playing.
"That helps you to want to train hard and keep improving. That's been the big thing in my time at Walsall.
"Even though I was aged 30 when I came here, it's a learning environment here and you are always learning different ways to play the game and different aspects of the game.
"I think I have improved as a player in my time here even though it's during the latter stages of my career."
