Sean O'Driscoll positive with Walsall's point
Walsall head coach Sean O'Driscoll remained positive despite witnessing his side concede a late equaliser in their League One clash against Blackpool.
Danny Philliskirk's strike in the fourth minute of stoppage time salvaged a point for Neil McDonald's men in the clash at the Banks's Stadium.
Walsall took the lead in the second-half through Jason Demetriou's third goal of the season. And results elsewhere meant a win would have seen the Saddlers move back top of the division.
But Philliskirk's late goal was to deny them, was the Saddlers instead dropping to third. O'Driscoll said: "I think it's a point won.
"If the game had ended on 92 minutes I will say the same things as if it ends on 95. Three minutes doesn't change what I think about the game and I thought we were excellent.
"We did the right things at the right times and that is a credit to the players.
"Blackpool beat Scunthorpe 5-0 doing exactly the same thing last week, playing nice and compact with two quick lads up front.
"We have done work on our defensive shape all week because we knew it was going to be that type of game. They applied themselves really well and I was delighted with them."
Walsall entered the game on the back of a 3-2 win at Bury last weekend.
But their last game at the Banks's Stadium ended in a 3-0 defeat to Rochdale with O'Driscoll's believing his side has come a long way since then.
He added: "In every division in the Football League, you are going to have ups and downs - not every game is going to be perfect. Blackpool will give any team in this division a right game.
"We can say that was a game where we almost came of age, where we have understood what the game was about.
"We played Rochdale and got blown away, we were better against Coventry and I think we were much more prepared for this game."
