Tom Bradshaw's 50 goal was a big one

Walsall might have only gained a point at Coventry but, in the context of the season, striker Tom Bradshaw reckons it was a pretty big one.

It's unlikely the Saddlers top scorer is alone in that view. His 85th-minute goal cancelled out Chris Stokes' opener for the hosts at the Ricoh.

That draw on Tuesday night ensured Sean O'Driscoll's side held on to third place in League One, keeping the Sky Blues a place and a point behind.

It also prevented them falling to back-to-back losses in the league for the first time this season.

Bradshaw said: "Psychologically it was brilliant going to the Ricoh, where they have a great team, and not losing the game.

"If we can now get three points at Bury on Saturday, it makes it an even better draw.

"Eventually teams will start to fade and we've just got to work hard to make sure it's not us.

"It's a strong position that we're in and it's a massive point because if Coventry would have won they would have gone above us. Then, dropping down to fourth, you're starting to mix with the play-offs.

"But we showed great team spirit and although it wasn't our best performance, I reckon the lads did brilliantly to get a point.

"I think we showed that we've got great grit and great team spirit to stay in the game when maybe last season we go under by two or three.

"We stayed in the game, scored the equaliser and could have kicked on and won."

During a season-and-a-half with the Saddlers, Bradshaw has scored no shortage of important goals.

But Tuesday's 50th of his career - and first since returning from an ankle injury - was extra special.

And that's even if boss O'Driscoll initially credited Romaine Sawyers with the strike during his post-match interview.

Bradshaw said: "I've just had a word with him there! I've obviously got to celebrate even more next time (so he knows it's my goal). I

"It was a great ball from Rico and good build-up from Romaine as well and I just put it in the net at the end of the move.

"It is a special moment – 50 league goals and I'm still young, only 23, so I want to kick on and score more."

Sawyers and Rico Henry were involved in the build-up to the goal.

They, along with the goalscorer, form the trio of players whose futures are the subject of most scrutiny during the current transfer window.

The club were last week quick to dismiss reports they had turned down an offer from a Championship club for their top scorer.

Bradshaw, typically, is playing any questions on the subject with a straight bat, while insisting it would need a very tempting offer to persuade anyone to depart the Saddlers promotion push.

He said: "Everyone wants to be involved in a winning team and that's what we are doing right now.

"Obviously, the club is going to want to hang on to as many of the squad as possible and all the lads who are playing well want to stay here and keep winning.

"I've had experiences in the past where I'm linked with clubs left, right and centre so it's not something new, it's just something you deal with as a footballer.

"You concentrate on your football and let the rest sort itself out."
