Sean O'Driscoll: We deserved our point

Head Coach Sean O'Driscoll felt Walsall deserved their point following a battling performance against promotion rivals Coventry.

Tom Bradshaw's 13th goal of the season earned the Saddlers a 1-1 draw at the Ricoh Arena.

Coventry had taken the lead after Chris Stokes' headed home Joe Cole's free-kick in a first-half dominated by Tony Mowbray's side.

But Walsall were much improved after the break with O'Driscoll believing a draw was a fair result.

"We struggled in the first half - we had enough possession but we struggled with what to do with it," he said.

"I was hoping we'd get to half-time with a clean sheet but with Joe Cole's quality they took the lead.

"But we were grateful to get in at 1-0 down. Credit to the boys because in many ways they sorted it themselves.

"We had to get another forward on the pitch and get two up top. Lots of things went on but they played on the front foot.

"I said to them if they are going to lose the game, I'd rather lose it playing like we did in the second half because that is the way you can win it."

O'Driscoll was impressed with his sides all-round performance after the interval.

"I thought we were fantastic in the second half - we were really good defensively and in our attacking play," he continued.

"I'm very pleased, especially after a difficult game on Saturday against Brentford.

"I thought we thoroughly deserved a point. We gambled a little bit and we ended the game with three forwards on the pitch.

"It gave us us a few hairy moments at the back because they have got some quality in their team and are unbeaten at home all season."

O'Driscoll admitted he actually thought it was Romaine Sawyers who got the game's winning goal.

"I thought it was Romaine who scored so I got that wrong," he added.

"But Tom is a goal scorer. I did think 'do I take him off' because it was only his second game back from injury.

"But we needed a goal so we stuck with him and played Jordan Cook as well. We went for it."
