Sean O'Driscoll: Forget FA Cup win, on to the league!
Sean O'Driscoll has warned his Walsall side there is no room for complacency as they prepare to take on promotion rivals Coventry City.
The Saddlers' FA Cup win over Dean Smith's Brentford on Saturday saw them through to the fourth round of the competition for the first time in 10 years.
An outstanding Sam Mantom strike settled the tie as Walsall came back to haunt Smith who left the Banks's Stadium six weeks ago.
But despite a hugely impressive performance at Griffin Park, O'Driscoll believes his team cannot afford to rest on their laurels
when they take on the Sky Blues tomorrow.
"Confidence was running through the players when they had won five games on the bounce but they then lost to Rochdale," O'Driscoll said. "As soon as they got into the dressing room (after Brentford) they had to concentrate on Coventry.
"You have got to enjoy the moment but if you want to be successful at any level, it is always the next game.
"I think the team has done tremendously well to be where they are but it's going to be difficult to maintain the level of performance week-in, week-out. There are a few tired legs and to go again against a high scoring Coventry is a big ask.
"But if we want to be successful, they are the challenges that have to be overcome."
O'Driscoll is hopeful he will be able to call on defender Jason Demetriou for the trip to the Ricoh Arena. The 28-year-old missed the Brentford game with a minor knee injury with youngster Liam Kinsella impressing in his absence.
"Jason was touch and go for Brentford," the head coach said.
"The idea was not to play him to try and get him fit for Coventry.
"But Kinsella was fantastic. He came on against Millwall and was terrific and has done brilliantly again."
O'Driscoll is also confident George Evans will have his loan extended in time for tomorrow's game with the Manchester City midfielder's switch having expired on Saturday. "As far as I'm concerned it's done," he added.
