Defender James Chambers insists Walsall have the character to cope in a League One relegation battle.

Just one win in 10 league games has left the Saddlers perilously close to the relegation zone ahead of Fleetwood's visit to the Banks's this Saturday.

But veteran Chambers insists they are not getting bogged down by the bad run and do not fear the games to come.

He said: "We are quite a spirited bunch, the staff as well. From that point of view we are OK, we have high spirits and want to perform for each other as well as the fans and the club.

"That should not be an issue."

Saddlers are 15th in the table but just two points clear of the bottom four and more worryingly, have failed to score in their last four games in all competitions.

Chambers is adamant they are not feeling bitter, after seeing a season which promised much turn suddenly sour.

He said: "It is a 46 game season. You have to pick up results as the teams at the top have done. Unfortunately for us, it has not worked out.

"We came off at Peterborough on Monday disappointed we hadn't won but we can't do any more. Anyone coming to the game today would agree we did everything but score."

Chambers, along with twin brother Adam, is the eldest member of the Saddlers squad.

He added: "It is not doom and gloom, we are upbeat in the fact we know we have a good side and on our day can perform to a level which will be better than most teams in our league.

"It is just about making sure we do that. The only thing we can do now is prepare for the next game and go into it confident in ourselves and each other. I'm sure will get a result."
