Boss hopes Walsall duo will make Wembley

Manager Dean Smith is hopeful Tom Bradshaw and Andy Taylor will be fit for Walsall's big day at Wembley after both sat out the 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

With the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final just four days away, the Saddlers boss revealed both players have undergone scans.

Bradshaw, who has netted 16 times this season, is struggling with a tight hamstring while Taylor has a calf problem.

Mal Benning, who was recalled from his loan at York City on Monday, played in place of Taylor at left-back against the Blades tonight.

And Smith said: "We are hopeful on both. It would be a bigger blow for them (to miss Wembley) than it would be for us. Mal came in and did a steady job, we know we have cover.

"Jordy (Hiwula) has done well up front as well, with four goals in eight games."

Ashley Grimes, meanwhile, did his chances of featuring at Wembley no chance by stepping off the bench to earn the Saddlers a point.

Jose Baxter had fired the Blades ahead after just eight minutes but Grimes levelled when he headed home just three minutes after coming on.

It was just his second goal for the club and he almost had a third soon after with a shot that rebounded off the inside of the post.

With Wembley next on the agenda, Smith was pleased with the commitment shown by his players.

He said: "I thought we were the better team, the main aggressors throughout the game. We had chances to win it.

"It was a great header from Ashley. I just felt they were playing that deep we were struggling to run at people.

"We want to win every game we go into and have had two good performances on the spin and should have more points. I could not ask more in terms of effort and performance.

"We have played two really good teams in MK Dons and Sheffield United. I said before the game Sheffield United are the biggest club in the league.

"We had them on the back foot for a long period. We were the main aggressors."
