Walsall ready to welcome back wing duo

Walsall boss Dean Smith hopes to welcome back wing duo Anthony Forde and Jordan Cook for the visit of Milton Keynes Dons.

Forde has missed three games with a groin strain, while Cook has sat out two with a similar injury.

Meanwhile, Sam Mantom is poised to play 90 minutes for the reserves against Morecambe tomorrow after making a surprise appearance on the bench for Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Barnsley.

The 23-year-old has been limited to four substitute appearances all season due to persistent knee problems but appears to be making rapid progress after returning to training.

"It was a boost to have Sam on the bench and he will get 90 minutes on Tuesday," said Smith.

"He has trained all week and looked really good and he will get the pitch time on Tuesday."

Smith is hoping the return of Cook and Forde on Saturday can breathe new life into the Saddlers after they slumped to a fourth defeat in six at Oakwell.

They remain just six points outside the League One play-off places despite the poor run but are lacking momentum and Smith felt the conditions and the state of Barnsley's pitch did not help their cause.

"We will rub ourselves down," added Smith. "We have two big games at home now and we need to out our home form right against MK Dons and Sheffield United."

"It is disappointing, following the game at Yeovil last Tuesday on a really good pitch where we popped it around and created 20 chances.

"Then you go to Barnsley and have to play on that. Both teams ended up having to play a long ball game, a percentage game.

"They were better at it than us, they defended better than us and ended up with the result."

"It was windy, the pitch wasn't great and they probably competed better on the day, that was disappointing about it."
