Adam Chambers: No room for error at Walsall
Captain Adam Chambers admits Walsall can afford no more slip-ups in the race for League One play-off places.
Chambers knows winning is all that counts in the final 14 games of the season after Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at Preston left them eight places and four points adrift of the top six.
The Saddlers have already secured a first ever trip to Wembley in the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy but are eyeing a second visit to the national stadium for the play-off final.
Chambers said: "We are getting towards the crunch end of the season and we need to be winning games. You want to play well but when it comes to this part of the season you need to win.
"We need to go on a bit of a run now to get to where we want to be. We know we have to put a run together.
"The last couple of seasons it seems we have done well against the teams at the top.
"We need to put that right now we have a run of games against those near the bottom, make sure we approach the game the right way and look to put in a strong performance, with the right intensity.
"We have shown we can put a run together and we are very confident we can do that.
"We have done it before, we know we are capable we just need to make sure we start games better than we did on Tuesday."
A poor first-half showing at Deepdale cost the Saddlers dearly on Tuesday and they now face a home game against Leyton Orient on Saturday.
They will be looking to improve a record of just five wins in 16 league games at the Banks's Stadium this season.
Chambers said: "Back at home, we need to improve. We want to put in a performance which will get us the three points.
"It is not going to be an easy game, they have some very good players and have invested in the squad the last year or so.
"It won't be easy even though they are down there near the bottom we have to make sure we are on it from the start."
