Boss Dean Smith fumes on Walsall injury
Manager Dean Smith was left fuming with the officials after Walsall were beaten at Preston and teenage full-back Rico Henry was left with a dislocated shoulder.
The Saddlers should learn more today on the extent of the 17-year-old's injury, after he underwent an X-Ray in hospital last night.
Henry suffered the injury following a collision with Chris Humphrey in the build-up to the only goal of the game, scored by Preston's Daniel Johnson in the 19th minute.
Smith was adamant referee Darren Drysdale should have blown up for a foul, saying: "He has just barged him over.
"The referee's have said it was a coming together. I don't want to whinge about officials but the kid is in hospital now with a dislocated shoulder.
"They said it was a coming together and I have seen it since and he is in front of the lad, how it was a coming together I don't know.
"He is in hospital now waiting for an X-Ray. It looked like his shoulder had popped out and I don't know how long it will take.
"With a Wembley date coming up, it is unfortunate."
Henry had replaced Andy Taylor in a starting line-up which was also missing vice skipper Paul Downing.
He was missing due to a thigh injury, though he should be back for Saturday's game with Leyton Orient along with Tom Bradshaw.
Smith also rested Romaine Sawyers before bringing the playmaker on as a second-half substitute.
Despite being aggrieved with the manner of the goal, Smith accepted his team's first-half performance was not good enough, as they suffered their first league defeat on the road since October 21.
He added: "After the first-half performance we did not deserve an awful lot, they have had a number of chances.
"The second-half performance was a lot better. They were the better side but the goal should never have stood.
"In the first-half we never got up to speed with it. They had a few chances in the second half but I thought we controlled it in the last half-an-hour.
"You take it on the chin if you get beat by a good goal but when there is a foul on the young kid and it is a foul, you feel aggrieved."
