Walsall paired as Andy Taylor thinks big

Defender Andy Taylor hopes Walsall's Johnstone's Paint Trophy heroics can get the Banks's rocking regularly - as they were paired with Bristol City for Wembley.

The Robins won the first leg 4-2 at Gillingham and last night's 1-1 draw secured the Robins' place in the final. Matt Smith scored to add to his four goals from the opening tie.

City have extended Smith's loan deal but only until March 1, so the Fulham striker won't be a part of the the JPT decider.

The Saddlers were backed by a capacity home crowd in Tuesday's nail-biting Northern area final second leg with Preston.

The attendance of 10,038 was only the fourth five-figure crowd in the last decade and way above the club's average attendance this season of just over 4,000.

Left-back Taylor hopes the attention garnered by the run to Wembley will entice more to come and watch regularly – starting with Sunday's visit of deflated Gillingham.

He said: "We've put the club on the map a little bit and hopefully it'll encourage a few more to come down and watch us.

"As a player you want to play in front of good crowds – as soon as we ran out for the warm-up you could feel the atmosphere building.

"It was terrific, You get that buzz and if you can have it every week it would be brilliant.

"We don't expect it every week, but if we could get a few more fans down here and get the atmosphere like it was – because it doesn't half help you on the pitch – it would give us a massive boost."
