Dean Smith praises 'professional' Walsall
Manager Dean Smith praised Walsall's "professional" display as they won 2-0 at Colchester.
Goals in each half from Anthony Forde and Michael Cain earned the Saddlers a third straight away win.
Smith felt his side weren't at their best but did enough to deserve the victory.
He said: "We didn't start the game too well in the first ten minutes and Richard O'Donnell has made a good save.
"We had to make a quick change after two minutes because of James O'Connor's injury, but how it is not a free-kick I don't know.
"James O'Connor has come off with ten staples in his head and a horrible scar. Paul Downing had to go on but has done a great job.
"We were not at our fluent best but I thought we were very professional today and deserved to win in the end.
"We have played better in the last three home games and been beat. But again I thought we were very professional."
Smith confirmed Sam Mantom, who has missed much of the season through injury, had a exploratory surgery on his knee this morning.
