Andy Taylor: Wembley not distracting Walsall

Defender Andy Taylor insists Walsall's Wembley hopefuls are not being distracted from the bread and butter of the league by their Johnstone's Paint Trophy dreams.

The JPT run has become the vocal point for many, with Walsall holding a 2-0 area final advantage over Preston North End heading into the second leg at the Banks's Stadium in two weeks.

It has put the Saddlers on the brink of a first-ever Wembley appearance, but left-back Taylor insists that is not to blame for the slump in Walsall's recent league results.

Asked if the JPT was on players' minds, Taylor said: "No I don't think so. As players, we just look to the next game because that's all you can affect.

"We just concentrate on what we can affect and that is our day-in day-out training and the next game.

"So we'll concentrate on Colchester this Saturday and hopefully get things right there. Then, and only then, we'll concentrate on the game after that.

"Because there is nothing that we can do now that will affect the game against Preston so there is no point thinking about it. We just need to concentrate on the here and now."

"You can think about it all you want but there's nothing you can do that can affect that game in two and a half weeks' time.

"The only thing you can affect is tomorrow and the day after that and then the day after that and then the next game."

Colchester have not set League One alight this season and remain in the relegation zone despite picking up a big win at Peterborough on Saturday.

Taylor added: "Colchester is a great opportunity to rectify things but it's nothing to do with where they are in the league or what run they are on. It's just the fact that it's the next game.

"Home or away it doesn't really matter, it's still three points up for grabs and it is a really good opportunity to put Saturday's result right."
