No case for Walsall's defence as Andy Taylor hits out at side
Walsall's 'Mr Reliable' Andy Taylor has delivered a scathing assessment of the Saddlers' declining defence, blasting: 'It's not good enough and we must improve.'
Taylor has been an almost ever-present part of a staunch Walsall back-line that has kept 10 league clean sheets this season.
But their status as League One's top defence has been dashed by shipping four goals to both Swindon and Scunthorpe recently. And Taylor admitted: "It's something that we're going to have to address because it's very disappointing.
"All season we've looked incredibly solid and the last few weeks or so we've been a lot looser. Not just conceding goals but conceding chances.
"Because prior to that there were so many games where our keeper has come off not having had to make a save, which we sort of prided ourselves on. And recently we've been conceding more goals and he's been having to make more saves as well. It is something that we are going to have to work on.
"We want to be organised and hard to beat and that's something that we have to get back to."
And while Taylor conceded that the defence would take most of the flak, he added that every member of the team had their role to play. The 28-year-old added: "It's everyone to a man, we all need to address it.
"Because if you rewind 30 seconds from every goal, they all start somewhere, higher up the pitch more often than not, and there's probably something you could do up there to prevent it. We need to sort it out as a team."
