Michael Cain able to do great things for Walsall

Captain Adam Chambers hailed the "frightening" potential of Michael Cain after his midfield partner's loan stay at Walsall was extended.

As expected, the Saddlers yesterday secured the services of the 20-year-old Leicester City man for a further month.

Cain has been at the Banks's since October and has impressed veteran Chambers, with whom he has struck up a steady partnership in the middle of the park.

"Michael came in and right from his first game was excellent," said the Saddlers skipper. "He is a very talented lad, who is still very young and is only going to get better – that's the frightening thing.

"He has many years ahead of him and I think he is going to do very well for himself. His range of passing is excellent and he scored a very good goal the other week up at Tranmere in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

"He's very gifted but also doesn't mind putting his foot in too, which helps. He's got a bright future."

Cain will now remain with the Saddlers until January 17 and manager Dean Smith added: "It's a real boost to be able to further extend Michael's loan.

"He's a talented young lad who has slotted extremely well into the team. He's made a real impact and also has a fantastic attitude and work-rate. He has a bright future ahead of him and I am delighted that we have been able to extend his stay with us."

The Saddlers have lost just once in the league since Cain arrived and head into a festive double-header with high-flying Swindon Town and MK Dons on a seven game unbeaten run.

Chances are they will be rated as underdogs against teams who are third and second in the table respectively. But Chambers claims that is just the kind of challenge they relish.

"These are the games we look forward to," he said.
