Walsall strikers look to become a deadly duo

Leading scorer Tom Bradshaw is backing fellow forward Jordan Cook to help him fire Walsall towards the League One play-offs this Christmas.

Bradshaw hailed Cook's two-goal display in Saturday's 3-1 win against Barnsley and backed the former Sunderland man to build on that performance in the festive campaign.

Bradshaw said: "I thought he was brilliant on Saturday. His first goal was sensational – probably the best goal I've seen here this season.

"And he did great to close down the full-back and basically put the ball on a plate for me for our second goal.

"Then he killed the game off with the third goal as well. He's done really well adapting to playing on the wing and he's a great asset to have for our team.

"We see it in training every day, he's a brilliant finisher. His work-rate is brilliant as well.

"It was plain to see on Saturday the technique he has got and I'm over the moon for him."

Cook's brace against the Tykes made him only the third Walsall player this season with more than a single league goal to his name.

But Bradshaw, who leads the way with eight in League One and 10 overall, insists he is happy to shoulder the burden.

"You do need goals from throughout the team but as a striker your job is to get the goals," he said.

"A lot of the goals I've scored have been because of my team-mates.

"On Tuesday at Tranmere, Anthony Forde and Michael Cain both chipped in with a goal as well and on Saturday Cooky got two so it's brilliant that everyone is chipping in and I think we are looking solid defensively as well."

Bradshaw has been dogged all season with a hamstring injury but he returned from a lay-off of around a month in last week's Johnstone's Paint Trophy win at Tranmere and was back among the goals against Barnsley.

"The hamstring came through well," he said. "To come through without any problem at all was great."
