Michael Cain believes he is growing as a player at Walsall.

The 19-year-old midfielder has impressed since joining last month from Leicester City, in a loan deal which was extended by a further month earlier this week.

Cain has started every game since arriving at the Banks's and has been praised for his performances by manager Dean Smith.

And the youngster believes his game is improving leaps and bounds.

He said: "I think I have grown as a player, I have developed my game in different areas where I felt I needed to. I think I have been helped a lot by the coaching staff.

"Hopefully I can keep developing over this next month ahead.

"When I first signed I was not expecting to play every game. I feel like I have done well and in each game I'm trying to do different things. It's all about learning from different experiences."

Cain was brought in to ease the Saddlers' problems in the centre of midfield, where they have been without last season's player of the season Sam Mantom through injury.

The former Luton Town youngster could not have been happier with the welcome he received throughout the club and believes this made settling in on the pitch much easier.

"I thought the whole club in general brought me in very well and I settled really quickly," he said. "All the lads made me more than welcome.

"Since then I think I have think we have kicked on performance-wise. I have been around some great people and the fans have welcomed me well."

Cain has played alongside Adam Chambers in the centre of midfield so far but, with Mantom perhaps close to a return, would be willing to adapt if it means he keeps his place.

"I like to think I'm adaptable, any midfield position I would like to play in," he added. "

You always have to learn different positions because it is another string to your bow."
