Jordan Cook is warning Walsall of a cup test

Striker Jordan Cook claims Walsall must be at the very top of their game to get past Shrewsbury Town in tonight's FA Cup showdown.

The Saddlers forward admits he and his team-mates are braced for a battle when the two rivals go head-to-head in a first round replay at the Greenhous Meadow.

Cook said: "That is what we expect, a full-blooded affair. We know every game we are going to play is going to be tough and energetic.

"We know we are going to have to be at the top of our game to beat Shrewsbury.

"Even though they are in the league below they are a very good team both defensively and going forward. It is just about getting through and progressing in the cup."

Cook has warned the Saddlers need to be on their mettle from the get go after being hit by an early Shrewsbury whirlwind in the first meeting at the Banks's 10 days ago.

Mark Ellis put the Shropshire side ahead inside five minutes, but two goals from Tom Bradshaw earned the Saddlers a 2-2 draw.

Cook added: "We expect a fast start. "At least that's what we always want to do, we want to go at teams straight away.

"Sometimes things happen in a game which means you have to sit back a bit and soak up pressure for the counter-attack.

"At their place, you have to expect a very physical game and it is likely to be end-to-end what with it being a cup tie."

"For us, we just have to do what we do best and make sure we are on the front foot."

While Shrewsbury are unbeaten on their own patch in League Two, Cook is content with the Saddlers run of five games unbeaten.

"We want to win every game we are in," he added. "You can see the lads' hunger.

"You can see the disappointment in the lads but, when we look back at it, we have got to be happy with the performance."
