Walsall boss Dean Smith: Draw against Peterborough is two points dropped

Dean Smith admitted Walsall's 0-0 draw with Peterborough felt like two points dropped.

The Saddlers boss felt his team dominated proceedings at the Banks's Stadium.

Romaine Sawyers missed their best chance when he pulled a shot wide from 12 yards out and the forward also saw another effort saved by visiting keeper Ben Alnwick.

And Smith said: "We were totally dominant today, so it feels like it is two points lost.

"The performance levels were very good, it was just the finish that was missing really.

"Sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition defence as well. They defended really well and got numbers behind the ball.

"When the chances did come the one has dropped to Romaine on his weaker side.

"It was a good move, a good ball around the corner from Michael Cain and he has gone in there.

"Jordan Cook had a couple of headers as well where you would fancy him to do better, Anthony Forde has had a shot.

"We were totally dominant in possession we just didn't get the goal to win the game."

Smith admitted both sides could have been awarded late penalties when Posh defender Ricardo Santos and Walsall's Ben Purkiss both appeared guilty of handball.

He added: "There is a case for both of them to be given so perhaps it is fair that neither of them were.

"Ben Purkiss looks like he is being tugged when the throw has come in and hit his arm but also I think their lad is running alongside Grimesy and it looks like he is carrying the ball into the box."
