Walsall were today handed a huge boost as top scorer Tom Bradshaw was declared fit for Saturday's game against Doncaster.

The 22-year-old, who has scored four of the Saddlers six league goals this term, has missed the past two games with a tight hamstring.

Manager Dean Smith confirmed Bradshaw will return against Doncaster Rovers this weekend.

In a further boost, Smith also hopes to have James Chambers (hamstring), Ben Purkiss, Jordan Cook (both ankle) and Sam Mantom (knee) back training this week as his injury concerns begin to ease.

"Tom Bradshaw will be fit for Saturday and I am hoping to have all of the players training this week which is fantastic news for us," said Smith.

"That includes Ben Purkiss who trained with us Friday, James Chambers, Jordan Cook and Sam Mantom so it was a case of weathering the storm over the last few weeks.

Involved

"Hopefully in the next week or so I will start having a really good squad to choose from."

Smith will likely assess the fitness of several returning players in this Wednesday's reserve game with Port Vale at Chasetown FC's Scholars Ground.

"I will have to look at them in training first and see how they are," he said. "I know the rehabilitation that Jon Whitney does with them and they won't be far off.

"There will be players involved in the reserve game who have been injured. It's a good chance to get some match minutes into them."

The manager also hailed the fighting spirit of skipper Adam Chambers after he returned from an ankle injury in Saturday's 0-0 draw at Gillingham – admitting the veteran midfielder had come back sooner than expected.

"It just shows the commitment he has," said Smith. "It was tremendous."
