Dean Smith frustrated by Walsall stalemate
Walsall manager Dean Smith admitted his frustration at missed chances after the Saddlers' win-less start to the League One season extended to six games.
They played out a drag goalless draw with fellow strugglers Colchester to extend their run without a win to 12 League games dating back to the end of last season.
Smith said: "There were points in the game when we lacked urgency and at the times we had really good chances we didn't take them.
"That was the disappointing part of it. We needed a goal just to spark us.
"Adam Chambers had a chance in the first half, Reece Flanagan had one in the second half and Tom Bradshaw had one at the end and the failure to hit the target was disappointing.
"I really felt if we scored at any time the floodgates could open, but the longer it went on the more nervous it got, I suppose."
Smith admitted he was "worried" when Colchester appealed for a penalty early in the second-half, after Sanchez Watt went down under Paul Downing's challenge.
Colchester boss Tony Humes said: "You can't fully see it from the sidelines, but it looked fairly blatant to me."
