Dean Smith dismayed by Walsall performance
Boss Dean Smith slammed Walsall's "disappointing and frustrating" performance as they slumped to defeat at Scunthorpe.
The manager was left unimpressed after the Saddlers fell to a 2-1 defeat at Glanford Park this afternoon.
Two goals in as many minutes from Hakeeb Adelakun and Gary McSheffrey put the hosts two up early in the second half and though the Saddlers pulled one back through Tom Bradshaw they could not find a leveller.
And Smith pulled no punches when assessing the showing.
"It was very disappointing because that is as bad as we have played for the first hour," said Smith.
"Until we scored the goal with 20 minutes to go there was no fluency and no movement at all. We did not pass the ball well.
"I got into them at half-time the most important thing was to stay in the game and we have given two horrible goals away again.
"I think (keeper) Richard O'Donnell will be disappointed with them as well."
Walsall are now without a win in their first five league games and Smith added: "I can't explain it.
"I think we lacked some fluency in our play and got caught. The balls up to the front two weren't very good and we got caught taking too many touches.
"It was disappointing and frustrating."
