New Walsall FC signing Craig Westcarr up for the challenge
Craig Westcarr today insisted he is ready for the Walsall challenge and targeted a goal haul after penning his loan deal.
The forward signed from Chesterfield yesterday and is primed to make his bow in tomorrow's home showdown with Hartlepool.
Boss Dean Smith had been chasing a forward to beef up his inexperienced strike force with Westcarr available until January 5.
And Westcarr, a former Nottingham Forest starlet, is eager to score the goals to push the 17th-placed Saddlers up League One. "I know a few of the lads here already so I'm ready for the challenge," said the 27-year-old.
"Hopefully I'll bring some goals and a lot of hard work. The target is to play, score goals and enjoy it.
"I spoke to the assistant manager, manager and a few of the lads so I know a little bit about them and it's a good quality team.
"At Tranmere the lads played well and were quite unlucky not to win. It's always a good result at the league leaders and hopefully we can take that into tomorrow."
Boss Smith, meanwhile, played down tomorrow's clash and insisted it will not define the season.
The Saddlers and Hartlepool have failed to win a combined total of 31 games ahead of tomorrow's Banks's Stadium showdown.
Rock-bottom Pools are 10 points adrift of the safety line and are winless in 18 while Walsall haven't tasted success in 13 outings.
But Saddlers boss Smith insisted nothing hinges on the game as Walsall look to build on draws at Crawley and Tranmere.
He said: "Everyone will be talking about the Hartlepool game and our run and saying we should be winning.
"But it's not a game which is going to define our season, just as Tranmere and Crawley weren't. It's just another game.
"It's another opportunity on the back of two good performances and it's an opportunity to do it at home.
"They've got a new manager (John Hughes) and he'll be putting in new ideas. He should give them a lift, the first couple of results haven't gone too well."
Skipper Andy Butler should return after suspension but Florent Cuvelier is out after a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury. He should return in two weeks.
