Adam Chambers could be set for a surprise Walsall return after boss Dean Smith today revealed his injury was not as bad as first feared.
The midfielder is rated as "50-50" to shake off a hamstring injury ahead of tomorrow's visit of MK Dons.
He limped off in the 3-0 Capital One Cup defeat at QPR last week and the Saddlers feared he would be out for weeks.
But scans revealed only a grade one tear in the muscle and the 31-year-old ex-Albion man was being assessed today.
"Adam is 50-50 which is good news. We feared the worst after he pulled up at QPR but we're hoping it's just a 10-day thing. We'll have a look at him today and see how he is," said Smith, who could also have Richard Taundry and Febian Brandy available after they returned from hamstring injuries against Tipton in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Wednesday.
"It was only a grade one so it wasn't as bad as he first thought. We were worried."
Twin brother James, on a non-contract deal at the Banks's Stadium, is definitely sidelined with a thigh problem.
The ex-Albion defender has made three appearances for the Saddlers but has not featured since the 1-0 win at Notts County last month.
But Smith insisted he is still planning further talks to take him on a permanent deal when he returns to fitness.
He said: "James is definitely out, he's had a thigh injury and he won't be ready.
"James is one we wanted to sign. The injury curtailed that but he's still registered to us. When he's fit he'll be part of the squad. There's still a possibility of taking it further."
