Walsall forward Jamie Paterson feels hungry for more goals after opening his account for the season in the 2-2 draw against Brentford at the Banks's Stadium.

Paterson was in the area to sweep the ball home in the first-half to give the Saddlers the lead and appears to be growing in stature due to the faith shown in him.

The 20-year-old has started every game this season as Smith's men reached the Capital One Cup second round and took five points from their first four league games.

The striker-cum-winger was still downbeat after Walsall squandered a 2-0 lead late on but won't dwell on negatives ahead of next Saturday's visit of Milton Keynes Dons.

He said: "It's a kick in the teeth but that's football, it's a point on the board and we have got to look at the positives. It's not a loss but it should have been three points.

"I was happy to score my first goal of the season and I want to score more now, it's been a slow start but, hopefully, I can get a few and set some up to help push us up the table.

"This is the first season we have started the first game and I have in every one since, I will better as we go on. It's a good club to come through at.

"As a team, we are looking good, playing football is imperative and I think in the games we have shown that we can keep the ball and create chances. We have shocked a few sides.

"A lot of people had doubts on us, I think we were favourites to go down, but we believe we shouldn't be down there so that just spurs us on that little bit more."
