Walsall star Adam Chambers today insisted boss Dean Smith can finally end the Saddlers' struggles next season.

Former Albion ace Chambers expects the manager to turn the team from scrappers to a success.

The midfielder worked with Smith at Leyton Orient before being reunited last summer when he made the switch to the Banks's Stadium.

Chambers has extended this Saddlers stay by a year after activating a clause in his contract and believes Smith can ease the team's drop fears.

"While the lads are relaxing through the summer he'll be working hard and trying to improve things.

Everyone can see the gaffer is the right man for the job," said the 31-year-old, with the Saddlers having suffered two seasons of relegation battles.

"In the first half of the season we were difficult to beat and in the second half we were more dangerous and scoring more goals. If we can marry the two together we're thinking top half. l that's what we're looking to do.

"It's helped that, while there were a few games where we didn't performed as we'd like, everyone could see we were difficult to beat. There were teams at the bottom who were getting beaten by four or five goals and it was embarrassing.

"We didn't have that, there were just a few decisions and performances which went against us."
