Walsall boss Dean Smith today revealed his determination to progress past the first round of the Capital One Cup after his side were given a tie against Brentford.

The Saddlers were paired with their League One rivals in yesterday's draw and Smith was happy to secure home advantage for the match which will be played in the week beginning August 13.

Smith said: "The main thing is that we are at home. We find ourselves up against a team that we know a lot about and it will be an interesting start to the season.

"Being the first game it is important and hopefully we can get off to a winning start and progress into the next round."
